Dear Dr. O'Brien Family,

I'm so sorry to hear your loss. It was so shocking news for me. Three week ago he was still presenting the Effect of Katrina on US Energy Market at OU. And just beginning of this week he had a conference in Denver with 5 of his students. Everything happened so sudden that I couldn't believe it when I heard the news. Last summer the same time, we were still talking about the effect of Oklahoma refineries on Energy Market. I still remember his smiles whenever we met each other. Everytime I saw him, he already call out lound "Hey, how are you doing!" and we had a little chat. I think he is one of the most wonderful professor that I've ever met. I've learnt many things from him not only from his broad knowledge about energy economic but also from his life experiences. I think I was lucky to be his student and also had a chance to work with him. He had left for me the most impression about the character of a professor: Leadership, wise, and very friendly and helpful with students. The memory of him is unforgetable in my mind.

God Bless,
Trung Hoang

Thank Trung for the idea of blogging. This is so sad and so shocking. I was with him for the most part of that afternoon in Denver, but sadly, not the last moment. He rented a car and drove me from the hotel to the airport. Because we flew different airlines, I left him at the terminal. This was about 5pm. Until then, he was in good shape. Beverly was told that he suddenly passed away at security check. This was so sad.

It is late now, I will fill in other memories on this thread later on.
